British Rowing Championships

18th August, 2025

Minerva was proud to see three of our juniors compete at the prestigious British Rowing Championships in Nottingham.

The event brought a day of blistering sunshine followed by a day of torrential rain— though thankfully with little wind or chop, racing conditions remained excellent.

On Friday, Charlotte P raced in the J18 2x category as part of an Avon composite crew. After progressing through a tough time trial, they qualified for the F final. Charlotte and her crewmate led the race confidently for nearly the full 2km but were overtaken by Hexham in the final 10 metres, finishing a strong second.

Saturday brought more racing for Charlotte, this time in the J18 1x event against a field of 54 scullers. She qualified once again for the F final, which was packed with drama. While a Molesey sculler took an early lead, a capsized boat at the 1km mark set off a battle between the remaining lanes. Charlotte showed grit and determination, pushing hard against Tideway Scullers, Cambridge 99 and Tideway Scullers in the final 100 metres to cross the line in second place after a thrilling sprint finish.

Also on Saturday, Heath and Max hit the time trial with full strength and skill in an incredibly competitive category of 49 boats from some of the best rowing clubs and schools in the country. They delivered a phenomenal performance—so much so that they were the fastest non-qualifiers of the day. Missing out on a final by just seconds was incredibly frustrating, but the entire club was immensely proud of their effort and composure. It was a brilliant experience and undoubtedly a stepping stone for even greater things to come.

A huge thank you to Zoe and the Millfield team for kindly driving the Minerva boats, to and from this event, along with the support they offered to our juniors on the day. It was hugely appreciated.
