Stourport Regatta 9th August

12th August, 2025

Stourport Regatta on Aug 9th saw the quad of Katrina, Emma, Liz and Heidi racing on the 1000m, upstream course that featured a long bend and a staggered start.

Our hearts sank when we saw that, not only was our first race and semi final against Loughborough, a club that had beaten us 2 weeks before at Bewdley, but we had an 8 second handicap. Those 8 seconds seemed to go on for ever as we listened to Loughborough moving at speed away from us… But our start was good and within a couple of hundred metres we’d caught them and moved past, eventually beating them by several lengths.

Our final was against a home crew who also had an 8-second head start. Again the race was to try and chase them down and despite our best efforts, spurred on by Katrina’s shouts that we were gaining on them, we ran out of river and lost by 1/4 of a length.

Despite not winning, we had a fantastic experience and Stourport is a lovely regatta to race at.
