Llandaff Regatta, 12th July

18th July, 2025

On a hot and sunny 12th July, five of our Minerva Juniors delivered fantastic performances at the Llandaff Regatta.

Ben J took on his first ever race in a single scull, competing in the J15 1x category. He gave a brave and technically strong performance, narrowly missing out in a straight final against Monmouth Comprehensive School.

With no J18 1x category available, Charlotte P stepped up to race in the Women’s 1x against a 19-year-old from Ross. She showed her strength and control, securing a confident win by six boat lengths. Charlotte later joined an Avon composite crew in the Women’s 2x, taking on Ross in the semi-final and Bristol in the final. Both races were tightly contested, especially the final, which went right to the line—Minerva/Avon emerged victorious in a thrilling finish.

In the afternoon, Tom C and Ethan W raced in the J16 2x. After a dominant semi-final win over Monmouth Comprehensive, they faced the home favourites, Llandaff, in the final. In an exciting showdown, Tom and Ethan pulled away decisively in the last 100 metres to win comfortably.

The Minerva juniors didn’t row to glory at Llandaff, they coxed too —Sophia, just 15 years old, took on the crucial role of coxing the Minerva Masters Women’s 8+. With calm and mature calls, she steered the crew to victory, earning praise from everyone on board.

A huge thank you goes to Steve, one of our junior parents, who generously towed the trailer and boats. Without his time and support, our juniors wouldn’t have been able to take part in such a fun and rewarding day.
