Learn to Row

Have you ever watched the Oxford and Cambridge boat race and thought you could do better? Or wandered along the river banks in the summer watching rowing boats speed past you and considered giving it a try? Minerva Bath rowing club could be the answer you've been looking for. We offer regular 4 week rowing starter courses designed to give you the basic skills and confidence around a boat.

You don't need to have any previous rowing experience to take part in the courses and we welcome all age groups and levels of fitness.
learn to row

Course details:

The first weekend of the course takes you to the rowing tank at Monkton Coombe school. The tank is closest thing to rowing without getting into a boat and helps you to learn the technique and familiarise yourselves with the rowing equipment. On Sunday the coaches will refresh the technique learnt the previous day on the ergos (rowing machines), focusing on getting you to move together with your fellow crew members before heading out into a boat for your first water outing.

Learn to row sculling

The following 3 Sundays get you back into a boat and out onto the water. You are assisted by current members of the rowing club as well as trained coaches, ensuring a safe and fun environment to learn in and also allowing you to interact with other rowers from Minerva Bath. This year (2011) we have started initially teaching people the basics of sweep oar rowing rather than sculling for the first time, which will help integrate our new members speedily into the club's current squad system at the end of the course. Each training session will last about 2 hours.
