Henley Member. Tom Hope's performance over the last 12 months have been so impressive that he has been invited to join Henley Rowing Club. Tom has already established himself as one of the leading members of the Henley Junior 15 squad and is rowing with the next group of Olympic Rowers. This is more proof that Minerva's Junior policy is starting to produce quality Oarsmen.

AGM.
The meeting held in October was uneventful for a change. Points of interest are the New Fee Structure to reflect the improving site, equipment and coaching efforts, New Captain: Bruce Martins and Secretary: Elaine Hoyes. More details will be available in the next Newsletter.

World Class Start.  Paul Stannard has announced that Adam Freeman Pask (Natural Science, 2006) and Dave Lyons (Coach Education, 2007) have both been selected to represent Great Britain at the 2006 Under 23 World Rowing Championships in Belgium from 20th-23rd July 2006.

Adam has been selected as Great Britain's Lightweight Men's Sculler. Dave has been selected in the Great Britain Heavyweight Men's Coxed Four. This is the first time the University of Bath has had any current students representing Great Britain in Rowing. With Marcus Bateman (Sports Technology, 2005) in the GB Senior Men's Squad and on course for selection in the Senior Coxed Four, 2006 should see not only the University of Bath's first full Great Britain International rower but three of them. Who will be the first to get a medal is still up for grabs!

All three athletes are supported by the Amateur Rowing Association's World Class Start and Potential Programme which is funded by UKSport with Lottery Money and are rowing out of Minerva Bath Rowing Club at Newbridge. If you would like any further information on the athletes, their selection or the WCS&P Programme please do not hesitate to contact Paul Stannard through this site..

Mencap. 21 May 2006. Minerva were delighted to host a days paddling for Mencap. Fortunately the day was sunny and they had an excellent trip which all thoroughly enjoyed. To see a larger photograph of  the whole crew looking slightly apprehensive at the start click the picture. Huge thanks to all who helped make this possible.

The Challenge Shield.
April 23rd 2006. It's coming home! Minerva win an historic victory against all the odds. Odds being Andy Hamilton rowing for the first time since 2002. The Alkmaar Shield Page | Cheese making pictures

Inter-Regional Regatta.  Juniors performed well at the inter-regional regatta held at the National Water Sports Centre in Nottingham. Tom Hope was the star performer finishing 5th overall after finishing 3rd in his heat. Alex and Ben Whetherly, both newcomers to the sport took a strong early lead in the men's junior 16 coxless pairs, they were second at the quarter distance before steering problems forced them back to 5th position.  Ruth Coverdale (J15 1x), Jake Tempo and Alex Wildy (J15 2x)  performed well in their heats and finals finishing 10th overall.  Arnold Cooke, Club president was impressed and expects them to climb the rankings in the future.

Beechen Cliff row to 4th spot.  21 March 2006. Beechen Cliff School recorded a stunning fourth place in this year's School's Head of The River race. Watched by a delighted headteacher, Andrew Davies, rowers Tom Adams, Richard Wiles-Teoh, Adam Manhi, Peter Oldham and cox Jonathan Ely completed the full Putney to Mortlake Varsity boat race course in a time of 20 minutes 3 seconds.  They contested the junior 18 coxed four event at the premier rowing event in the schools' winter rowing calendar. It was the school's (competing under the name of Minerva Bath Rowing Club) best ever finish and is the culmination of many months dedication and hard work by the boys and coach Dr Arnold Cooke.

The Minerva Rowing Club Annual Dinner  was as usual a very enjoyable night out. Well supported as usual by old members, but it was great to see so many of the new members getting into the spirit of things, although their dancing skills are no better. Hope to see them on the dance floors of Ironbridge and Bewdley.  This year saw the introduction of the 'Arnolds' for services to rowing, you had to be there to experience the full excitement of the event, The category's were strange to say the least, ask Vince for the list and winners.

2005

The Challenge Shield. Shock horror! Alkmaar retain the Shield. Despite valiant efforts we failed to regain the shield. For more details and photographs  see the initial press release.

Alkmaar are coming. Our Dutch twin town club Alkmaar are visiting Bath over the weekend of Friday 21st of October. It is very pertinent this year, as it is 60 years since the twinning began in 1945 when Bath residents welcomed Dutch children who suffered during the German occupation of World War 2. We will be holding a Challenge shield headrace on the Sunday 23rd at 10:00am over the full headrace course. Please come down and cheer on both crews. We will be meeting at the Boathouse, Newbridge on Friday and at a restaurant on Saturday night. Please contact Andy Hamilton, Chris Fry, Erica Flood or Wendy Lloyd for more details.

Hello Newbridge - Goodbye Bathampton: Thanks to a fantastic effort by most club members we are now able to move onto the new Newbridge site.
