Flood Disaster! Thursday November 2 2000 |
|
18-3-01 From the ashes rose the phoenix, rather than demolish the damaged boatshed we have managed to salvage the foundations, roofing timbers and selected corrugated iron. As a result of a lot of hard work we will soon have a newly refurbished boatshed with cold running water. Pictures to follow 9-12-00 Take a look at the photographs of the flood 29-11-00 Since the initial flood things are getting back to normal. The site though damaged has been made safe, the boat shed however is beyond repair. Attempts are being made to raise the funds to purchase an agricultural building to replace the soon to be demolished shed. The damaged boats have been assessed and will be repaired as necessary. Once the weather improves we will be able to clean up. Thankfully the improved drainage has meant the site is much dryer than usual. 15-11-00 As a result of recent bad weather and floods Minerva Bath has suffered thousands of pounds of damage. Club members braved four feet of water to remove boats, local residents helped out by allowing boats to be temporarily stored on their lawns. The University of Bath has also kindly helped by storing some boats until the boatshed has been demolished and replaced. Many of the boats have been badly damaged or written off, there will be no rowing until further notice. The club is planning a series of working weekends to repair the damage and get the club back on the water. The annual firework display has also been cancelled resulting in further lost revenue, it hopefully will be scheduled for later next week, weather permitting. Club Captain, Stephanie Bailey-Cooper, said: "We are absolutely horrified by the damage. However, we are lucky that we have such committed club members who have offered help to put club back together again over he coming months. As a result of this disaster the club will embark on a major fund-raising campaign as the insurance will not fully cover the damage. Anyone who can help by donating equipment, steps, boats or with financial assistance is asked to contact Stephanie on 01225 722856.
