Body weight correction factor

Home

One of the most typical comments regarding Ergo scores is the difference in body weights. West German rowing coach Karl Adam determined that the heavier the rower the deeper the boat would sink in the water; thereby increasing its drag effect. this means that a heavier rower has to produce more power to over come the increased hull friction and move the boat at the same speed. As the ergo doesn't penalise the heavier rower the following calculations adjust the scores for rowers under 170lbs (12st 2lbs)

Weight adjustment Factor(WAF) =

 (body weight in pounds) x

.222

170

Using the WAF:

For timed pieces: corrected time = actual time multiplied by WAF

For distance pieces: corrected distance = actual distance divided by WAF
